A mother and her daughter were killed after being run over by a 10-wheeler truck loaded with paper in Ludhiana on Monday morning. The tragic accident took place while the two were crossing the road.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred between 6:15 am and 6:30 am. The truck, which was coming from Garhshankar and carrying a full load of paper, was heading from the Ghanta Ghar area towards Lakkar Bazaar to unload its cargo within the city when it struck the victims.
The impact proved fatal, and both the mother and daughter died on the spot. Local residents gathered at the scene immediately after the accident.
Police said the identities of the deceased had not been established at the time of filing the report, and no family members had reached the spot. Preliminary information suggests that the truck driver is a resident of Salem.
Police officer Manpreet Singh reached the scene, took custody of the bodies, and initiated legal proceedings against the truck driver and the vehicle. The bodies have been sent for further procedures.
Authorities are also examining CCTV footage from nearby cameras to ascertain the exact cause of the accident and determine whether negligence was involved.
