A disturbing case has emerged from Himachal Pradesh's Bilaspur district, where the family of a 20-year-old college student has alleged that she was lured into drug addiction and manipulated into stealing gold and silver jewellery from her home.

According to the complaint filed by the family, the student was pursuing higher education in Kharar, near Chandigarh, and living in a paying guest (PG) accommodation. Her relatives claim that some individuals first introduced her to heroin and later exploited her addiction to persuade her to bring valuable jewellery from her family home.

The family said the student was considered academically bright and had been sent outside the district with hopes of a better future. However, concerns arose when the PG operator informed her father that her behaviour had become increasingly unusual in recent weeks. The operator reportedly stated that she had been seen under the influence of drugs on several occasions and that her activities appeared suspicious.

The situation escalated when the student suddenly left the PG accommodation and became unreachable, with her mobile phone switched off. Alarmed by her disappearance, her parents rushed to Chandigarh and, with the help of relatives and acquaintances, launched a search operation. After nearly two days of efforts, they received information about her possible whereabouts.

During their inquiry, the family gathered information about a young man whom the student had reportedly expressed a desire to marry. They contacted the man's family and shared details of the situation. The youth's relatives allegedly cooperated and accompanied the girl's family to Chandigarh for further discussions.

The family claims that during questioning about the missing jewellery, the student admitted to bringing ornaments from home. However, they allege that she and the young man left the location during the conversation and subsequently disappeared.

The parents further alleged that their daughter is now completely under the grip of drug addiction and is being exploited by certain individuals. They stated that when they later reached a location identified with police assistance, they found the student in a room along with several other people. The family alleged that narcotic substances were present at the spot, though they claimed no effective action was taken at that time.
