Hisar Police have achieved a major breakthrough under the Haryana Police’s anti-drug campaign, recovering 114.910 kilograms of ganja from a jeep during a checkpoint operation at Airport Chowk. The seized consignment is estimated to be worth around ₹60 lakh in the international market.
One accused has been arrested on the spot, while the jeep allegedly used for transporting the contraband has been taken into police custody.
According to police, a tip-off was received that a large consignment of narcotics was being transported from the Hansi side towards Hisar. Acting on the information, a police team set up a strict blockade at Airport Chowk.
During the operation, officers signaled a jeep approaching from Hansi to stop. The driver reportedly became nervous and attempted to divert the vehicle towards the HTM area. However, the vehicle stalled, allowing police personnel to quickly surround it and apprehend the driver.
A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 21 packets of ganja concealed in the jeep’s trunk. Upon weighing, the seized contraband was found to be 114 kilograms and 910 grams, which falls under the commercial quantity category under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Police have registered a case under the NDPS Act at HTM Police Station, Hisar. Officials said the accused will be produced before a court and taken into police remand for further interrogation.
Investigators will seek to determine the source of the narcotics, the intended recipients in Hisar, and the individuals involved in the wider drug trafficking network.
