Hoshiarpur : 16-Year Old Boy Killed by Lightning During Cricket Tournament

A tragic incident occurred in Bakapur Guru village under Garhshankar in Hoshiarpur district, Punjab, where a 16-year-old boy lost his life after being struck by lightning during a cricket tournament.

The deceased has been identified as Tarundeep Singh, a resident of Rasoolpur village. According to the village sarpanch, Tarundeep had recently appeared for his Class 10 exams and his result had just been declared. With schools closed, he had gone to participate in the local cricket tournament.

The incident took place between 11:30 AM and 12 noon. Around 11 boys had gone to a nearby village to play in the tournament. During the match, the weather suddenly turned bad, but the players continued playing despite light rainfall. Unfortunately, lightning struck the ground during this time.

Tarundeep Singh, son of Onkar Singh, and another young boy, Anshpreet Singh (18), were directly hit by the lightning. The other players also felt the impact and were thrown aside due to the shock.

Both injured boys were rushed to a private hospital in Nawanshahr, where Tarundeep succumbed to his injuries. Anshpreet Singh is currently undergoing treatment.
