A murder case involving Jasmine Aujla Gill, an Indian-origin woman of Punjabi descent, has come to light in California, United States. Her husband, Gurinder Gill, has been arrested on charges of murder after investigators identified her as the woman whose burned remains were recovered in El Dorado County.
Jasmine went missing from her home in Sacramento on September 30. On October 1, investigators recovered the burned remains of a woman in El Dorado County. Three days later, on October 4, Jasmine's cousin reported her missing. Investigators subsequently identified the remains as those of Jasmine Gill and began pursuing the case as a homicide.
During the initial investigation, Gurinder allegedly told authorities that officers from the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency had taken his wife into custody. He claimed that Jasmine had been checking the mail at their home when the officers arrived and took her away.
However, when investigators contacted ICE, the agency reportedly confirmed that no such operation had taken place at the address in question. This prompted investigators to scrutinise Gurinder's account, and they subsequently found several inconsistencies in his statements regarding his wife's disappearance.
Investigators also learned that the couple had been involved in a dispute over divorce and the custody of their children. Authorities examined the circumstances surrounding Jasmine's disappearance and death before obtaining an arrest warrant against Gurinder.
Gurinder was located and arrested on October 14. Investigators also executed search warrants at two residences associated with him as part of the probe.
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to examine the evidence and circumstances surrounding Jasmine's death.
