Jalandhar Commissionerate Police have busted a gang involved in extortion and firing incidents and arrested four accused persons. The arrested individuals were allegedly in direct contact with criminal handlers based abroad and carried out criminal activities on their instructions.
Acting on a tip-off received on Friday, the police learned that some criminals were planning to execute a major crime in the city. Taking swift action, a police team laid a trap and successfully apprehended four gang members along with weapons.
During the operation, police recovered three modern pistols and a large quantity of live cartridges from their possession.
Preliminary investigation and interrogation have revealed that the accused were operating under the guidance of their foreign-based handlers. These handlers used internet calls and social media applications to assign targets, provide instructions, and arrange funding for the gang.
According to police officials, the arrested accused were involved in planning and executing several firing incidents in Jalandhar and Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar. Their main objective was to create fear among traders and influential individuals to extort money.
The gang had also conducted reconnaissance of multiple locations in recent days to execute further violent crimes. However, timely action by the police prevented a major incident.
