A joint team of Jalandhar Police and the Drug Department raided two medical stores near Basti Bawa Khel Adda on Tuesday morning and seized more than 100 intoxicant pills from a shop and the residence of its operator. The police detained the father-son duo in connection with the alleged illegal sale of narcotic medicines.

The authorities have initiated the process of sealing the medical store and cancelling its licence.

The raids were conducted under the supervision of ACP Atish Bhatia, SHO Sanjeev Suri and Drug Inspector Amit Bansal at Anand Medical Store and Prabhjot Medical Store near Basti Bawa Khel Adda. The action followed a tip-off that intoxicant medicines were allegedly being sold illegally at the outlets.

Confirming the operation, ACP Atish Bhatia said the police had sent a decoy customer to verify the information. The customer allegedly purchased intoxicant medicines worth Rs 1,000 from the shop. Following the transaction, teams from Basti Bawa Khel police station, Police Station No. 5 and the Drug Department conducted the raid.

During the inspection, officials allegedly found that the accused was removing the pills from their original blister strips and selling them loose in a separate container. After searching the shop, the joint team also raided the residence of the store operator, Anand.

The police detained both the father and son during the operation. According to the ACP, more than 100 prohibited intoxicant pills have been seized so far. Raids are also being conducted at other locations linked to the accused as part of the ongoing investigation.

Police sources said the medical store had allegedly been raided previously over the sale of intoxicant medicines. The accused had reportedly been arrested and sent to jail in an earlier case but allegedly resumed the activity after securing bail.

Taking a serious view of the matter, the authorities are recommending permanent cancellation of the medical store's licence to the Drug Department. The legal process to seal the shop is also underway.

Further investigation into the alleged illegal sale of narcotic medicines is in progress.
