Actress Janhvi Kapoor has strongly condemned an AI-generated obscene deepfake video featuring her and created using visuals from the song ‘Chuttamalle’ from her film Devara: Part 1.
In a statement shared on her Instagram Stories, Janhvi called the misuse of technology a serious violation of women’s dignity and said that creating and circulating sexualised content without a woman’s consent is almost equivalent to sexual harassment.
Janhvi said that portraying women as objects and digitally manipulating their images without permission is an extremely serious issue. She stressed that consent must remain central to how women’s bodies and personal boundaries are treated.
The actress also pointed out that women in the film industry have faced such problems in various forms for years, while the misuse of technology and social media has now made ordinary women increasingly vulnerable to similar violations.
‘No Means No, Even If She Said Yes Before’
Janhvi emphasised that a woman’s consent can change at any time and must be respected. She explained that even if a woman says “yes” for several days, her “no” on another day must still be respected.
She also challenged the mindset that a woman’s clothing gives anyone permission to violate her privacy. Wearing a miniskirt, she said, does not give anyone the right to place a camera underneath it or misuse images of her body.
According to Janhvi, every woman should have complete control over what she is comfortable with and where she chooses to draw her boundaries.
Calls for Change in Social Mindset
Janhvi said women face violations of their boundaries both online and offline. She stressed that society needs to change its mindset rather than focusing only on protecting daughters.
She called for a culture that teaches people to respect other individuals’ privacy, consent and personal boundaries.
Thanks Junior NTR and Other Celebrities
Janhvi also expressed gratitude to her Devara: Part 1 co-star Junior NTR, who had publicly spoken out against the viral deepfake video.
She thanked veteran actor Chiranjeevi, actor Vijay Deverakonda and actor-politician Khushbu Sundar as well for standing in solidarity with women facing such violations.
Janhvi said that when prominent stars take a public stand against such behaviour, it gives courage to women who have experienced similar forms of harassment and abuse.
