Punjabi-origin police officer who served with the Vancouver Police Department (VPD) for nearly two decades has been arrested following a lengthy investigation. Kalwinder Singh, also known as Kal Dosanjh, was arrested along with his alleged associate, Sarabjit Singh Gill.
According to information released in the case, police conducted a search at Dosanjh’s residence near 129 Street and 59 Avenue in Surrey, British Columbia. During the operation, officers were seen removing several boxes reportedly containing documents from the property.
British Columbia Prosecution Service has confirmed the charges against the two men. Police said 50-year-old Kalwinder Singh faces nine criminal charges, including four counts of fraud over C$5,000, four counts of theft over C$5,000 and one count of breach of trust by a public officer.
Meanwhile, 51-year-old Sarabjit Singh Gill faces six charges related to fraud and theft.
Police said the alleged offences took place between December 8, 2017, and July 25, 2025, and are linked to Vancouver, Surrey and other areas of British Columbia.
The case is reportedly connected to an alleged large-scale investment scam. Preliminary information suggests that money may have been collected from individuals after promises of investing in real estate and providing substantial returns. However, police have not yet released detailed official information regarding the alleged investment scheme.
Vancouver police chief has so far declined to provide extensive details about the investigation, saying further information would be shared at a press conference.
Dosanjh, originally from a village near Phagwara in Punjab, served with the Vancouver Police Department for around 20 years. Alongside his police career, he was associated with the Surrey-based KidsPlay Foundation, an organisation that works with young people and aims to steer them away from crime and substance abuse by providing positive opportunities. He was also known in the local community for his social and charitable activities.
His legal team at Alliance Lawyers, which is representing Dosanjh, has rejected all allegations against him.
Importantly, the charges against both men remain allegations and have not been proven in court.
