Fear has gripped residents of Himachal Pradesh’s capital, Shimla, after a leopard was spotted in a densely populated residential area of New Shimla. The wild animal attacked and carried away a stray dog in Sector-4 late Wednesday night, with the entire incident captured on CCTV.

According to CCTV footage, the incident occurred at around 9:04 PM when a black dog was sleeping beside a road near the colony. A leopard, which had reportedly been hiding behind a parked vehicle, suddenly emerged and pounced on the dog. Within seconds, the predator overpowered the animal and dragged it away from the area.

The shocking footage has raised concerns among residents, who say the presence of a leopard in a busy residential neighborhood poses a serious threat to public safety. Locals pointed out that many people return home late at night, often between 11 PM and midnight, increasing the risk of a human-wildlife encounter.

New Shimla Councillor Nisha said the matter has been reported to the Forest Department. She urged officials to install a cage in the area and take immediate steps to capture the leopard before any untoward incident occurs.

Forest Department authorities are expected to monitor the area and assess the situation to prevent further wildlife intrusions into the residential colony.
