A London-based model, identified as Lali, was robbed of her iPhone 17 Pro Max while returning from a visit to the Wagah Border in Amritsar. The mobile phone, reportedly worth around Rs 1.5 lakh, was snatched by a motorcycle-borne miscreant near Ramtalai Chowk at around 7 pm.
Lali shared details of the incident through a video posted on social media. She said she had visited the Wagah Border along with Punjabi and foreign tourists. During their return journey, the group was travelling in an auto-rickshaw, listening to songs and enjoying conversations. They had also stopped to enjoy lassi along the way.
She was sitting in the front seat of the auto-rickshaw with her iPhone 17 Pro Max in her lap. Despite holding the phone firmly, a man riding a motorcycle without a number plate suddenly snatched it and fled.
The incident left Lali deeply upset, particularly because the phone cover also contained a peacock feather gifted to her by a stranger during her visit to India.
However, the response of local residents turned a difficult situation into an experience of kindness and hospitality. The auto-rickshaw driver, Vicky, offered her his spare mobile phone for use. Hotel owner Vikas helped her speak to her parents through an international call and also assisted her in visiting the police station.
Her friend Nadeem also extended financial assistance to help her purchase a new phone. He further booked her flight tickets to Pune so she could celebrate Diwali there.
Lali said she had lodged a complaint with the police. Despite the unfortunate incident, she expressed gratitude towards the people of Amritsar, praising their kindness, support and hospitality during her difficult time.
