Two separate incidents of snatching targeting women were reported in Ludhiana, with CCTV footage of both incidents surfacing. While a bike-borne suspect was caught by locals after an attempted earring snatching in Shimlapuri, another woman was allegedly robbed of her purse in Hazuri Bagh Colony.
The first incident took place on September 6 in Mandi Wali Gali near Medh Di Chakki in the Shimlapuri area. According to CCTV footage, a young man wearing a black shirt arrived on a motorcycle and spotted an elderly woman walking through the lane with a child.
The biker approached the woman and asked her for directions. As she began talking to him, he suddenly attempted to snatch her earrings. The woman immediately raised an alarm, prompting nearby residents to rush to the spot.
The accused tried to escape on his motorcycle, but a scuffle broke out between him and the woman, causing the bike to lose balance. Residents who reached the spot managed to catch him. The suspect was allegedly beaten by locals before being handed over to the police.
Police are questioning the suspect and examining the CCTV footage as part of the investigation.
In the second incident, a bike-borne snatcher allegedly targeted a woman in Hazuri Bagh Colony and fled after snatching her purse. CCTV cameras captured the incident, and the footage is now being examined by the police.
Police said teams are analysing CCTV footage from both locations and gathering other evidence to establish the identity and role of those involved. Further action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
