A 38-year-old woman was found dead at a hotel near Jalandhar City Railway Station on Monday morning, prompting a police investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.
The incident took place at the Royal Hotel, where the woman had been staying in Room No. 102 for the past two days. According to hotel staff, they went to deliver tea around 7 am, but the woman did not open the door. After repeated attempts and receiving no response from inside the room, the hotel manager informed the police.
A team from Division-3 police station reached the spot and found the woman lying dead inside the room. The body was taken into custody and sent for post-mortem examination.
Police identified the deceased as Yotika, a resident of Ludhiana. Preliminary investigation revealed that she used to visit Jalandhar to meet a man identified as Vishu, whose nickname is said to be Chintu. Police are now trying to locate him for questioning.
Investigators said that the man had been visiting the hotel regularly for the past two days and reportedly stayed with the woman in the room for about two to three hours each day before leaving. He had also visited her on the previous day, after which he left the hotel.
During the search of the room, police recovered a red suitcase, which was found empty. The room was reportedly in a disturbed condition, with belongings scattered around and used cigarette packets found inside. Officers have included the condition of the room and the recovered items as part of the investigation.
Hotel employees have expressed suspicion that the death may be linked to drug or substance use, but police said the exact cause of death is yet to be determined. Authorities stated that the post-mortem report and further forensic examination will help establish the circumstances that led to the woman’s death.
