Jalandhar Commissionerate Police has busted an international drug trafficking racket and arrested three accused with a total recovery of 34.5 kilograms of charas. The operation was carried out by the CIA team led by Inspector Surender Kumar.
According to police, on August 28, the CIA team intercepted Devanand alias Nanda, a resident of Dakoha in the Rama Mandi area, under suspicious circumstances. During a search, police recovered 1.5 kg of charas from a black packet in his possession.
Following the recovery, a case was registered under the NDPS Act at Rama Mandi Police Station. During sustained interrogation, Devanand revealed the names of his associates allegedly involved in the narcotics network.
Based on his disclosures, police arrested Buddha Bahadur of Hoshiarpur and Suryarti alias Him Rati, a native of Nepal currently residing in Hoshiarpur, on August 29. Police recovered 15 kg of charas from Buddha Bahadur and 18 kg from Suryarti, taking the total seizure to 34.5 kg.
Investigations revealed that the main accused, Devanand alias Nanda, has a criminal history and was previously booked in NDPS Act cases registered at Jalandhar Cantt and by the NCB Chandigarh. No previous criminal record has been found against the other two accused so far.
All three accused are currently on police remand. Investigators are examining their backward and forward linkages to identify other members of the trafficking network and trace the wider supply chain.
