A 39-year-old man was shot dead while returning from a friend’s birthday party in Ludhiana late Monday night. His friend was also injured in the firing. The incident took place near Ghanta Ghar Chowk 12, under the Kotwali police station area.
The deceased has been identified as Raminder Singh alias Sonu, a photographer and father of two. According to the police, the attackers arrived in a car and opened fire at Raminder and his friends before fleeing the spot.
One of the bullets struck Raminder in the neck. He collapsed on the road and died after struggling for some time. His friend Sanjeev, who was also injured in the firing, sustained an injury to his hand.
Sanjeev said that Monday was their friend Sunny’s birthday and several friends, including Raminder, had attended the party. Around 11:30 pm to midnight, they were returning home after the party when they noticed an argument near JMD Mall following a collision between an Activa scooter and a car.
Sanjeev said he and his friends got out of their vehicle and intervened to settle the dispute. The matter was resolved, after which they returned to their vehicle and started driving home.
According to Sanjeev, a Creta car then approached them from behind. The occupants allegedly opened fire from the vehicle and sped away. Raminder was hit in the neck, while Sanjeev was injured in the hand.
Police reached the spot after receiving information about the shooting and launched an investigation. The motive behind the attack and the identity of the assailants are yet to be established.
