A major landslide struck the Dhalli–Sanjauli Bypass in Shimla on Thursday evening, bringing traffic to a complete standstill after a hillside suddenly gave way and dumped large amounts of debris onto the road.
The incident occurred at around 5:15 PM, when heavy soil and rocks, along with two uprooted trees, fell across the bypass, blocking vehicular movement from both directions.
Following the incident, the Public Works Department (Kasumpti Division) rushed machinery to the site to remove the debris and clear the fallen trees. Officials said restoration work is underway.
Fortunately, no casualties or injuries have been reported, and no vehicles are believed to have been caught in the landslide.
Meanwhile, Shimla Police has closed the Dhalli–Sanjauli Bypass for traffic and advised commuters to use alternative routes until the road is cleared and declared safe.
Police also warned that there is still a risk of additional debris falling from the hillside, urging people to stay away from the affected stretch until further notice.
