The temporary removal of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Facebook video has now turned into a serious matter, with Meta issuing an apology to the Government of India and admitting that the content was taken down by mistake because of a technical glitch, not due to any policy violation.
According to Meta, the video was restored on the platform as soon as the error was detected. A company spokesperson said the content had been “incorrectly removed” and expressed regret over the incident, adding that it has now been fully reinstated for all users.
Sources indicate that the central government is not treating the issue lightly. Concerned departments are examining how an official video of the Prime Minister was removed and whether Meta’s explanation of a technical malfunction is adequate. Officials may reportedly seek a detailed clarification from Meta representatives regarding the sequence of events.
The video had briefly disappeared from Facebook, one of Meta’s social media platforms, for users in India before becoming accessible again after the restriction was lifted.
Uploaded on 23 July, the video featured Prime Minister Modi addressing Generation Z (Gen Z) for the first time in connection with a student protest organised by the CJP. In his message, he spoke about taking strict action against examination paper leaks and indicated that the government would soon introduce new and tougher measures to curb such incidents.
Before it was removed, the video had reportedly garnered millions of views. Now that Meta has acknowledged its mistake, the government is reviewing the entire episode to determine the exact cause and ensure that similar incidents do not occur in the future.
