A shocking incident of broad daylight firing in Punjab's Mohali district created panic on Sunday after a retired Army personnel allegedly opened fire on a shopkeeper in Sialba village near Kharar. The victim was sitting outside his shop when the accused reportedly arrived and fired at him, leaving him seriously injured. Local residents rushed to the spot and immediately shifted the injured shopkeeper to a nearby hospital. Considering the severity of his injuries, doctors later referred him to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGI), Chandigarh, for advanced treatment. The injured man's wife is a former village sarpanch.

The entire incident was captured on a CCTV camera installed near the shop. The footage shows the accused approaching the shopkeeper before suddenly opening fire and fleeing the scene. As soon as the gunshot was heard, people from the surrounding area gathered at the spot and informed the police. Acting swiftly, the police conducted a raid and arrested the retired Army man from his residence shortly after the incident.

Police teams reached the crime scene soon after receiving the information and began collecting evidence. CCTV footage from the area has been seized as part of the investigation. The weapon allegedly used in the attack has also been taken into custody, and officials are verifying its licence and legal status.

According to the preliminary investigation, the police suspect that the shooting may have been the result of a personal dispute or old rivalry. However, officers said all possible angles are being examined, and the exact motive behind the attack will become clear only after a detailed investigation and questioning of the accused.

A case has been registered against the accused under the relevant provisions of law. Police officials stated that forensic evidence and witness statements are being collected to strengthen the investigation. The broad daylight firing has raised concerns over public safety in the area, while local residents have demanded strict action against the accused.

The injured shopkeeper continues to undergo treatment at PGI Chandigarh, where doctors are closely monitoring his condition. Police have assured that the investigation is progressing on priority and that the complete truth behind the incident will be revealed after all evidence is examined.
