Monsoon rainfall continued across several parts of Himachal Pradesh, disrupting road connectivity, power supply and water schemes. As of 10 am on Saturday, 92 roads were blocked due to landslides, while 44 power transformers and 25 water supply schemes were also affected.
According to the State Emergency Operation Centre, Mandi and Kullu districts reported the highest number of blocked roads and affected power transformers. In Hamirpur, the Barsar and Bhoranj subdivisions recorded the highest impact on water supply, with 17 schemes affected.
Meteorological Centre, Shimla, said several parts of the state may receive light to moderate rainfall on Saturday. However, rainfall activity is expected to decrease between September 6 and 10, with light rain likely at isolated places. Rainfall is expected to increase again across several areas on September 11.
During the past 24 hours, Dharamshala recorded the highest rainfall at 30.2 mm, followed by RL BBMB at 21.4 mm, Olinda at 20 mm, Raipur Maidan in Una at 18 mm, Jot in Chamba at 12.6 mm, Palampur at 12 mm, Kandaghat at 7.8 mm and Kasol at 7 mm.
The monsoon has also caused significant loss of life and property in the state. Between June 30 and September 4, 267 people have died in disasters, while 487 others were injured. Of the fatalities, 159 were reported in road accidents.
During the same period, 35 concrete and 80 kutcha houses were completely damaged, while 477 houses suffered partial damage. In addition, 17 shops and 444 cowsheds were damaged.
The total estimated loss caused by the monsoon in Himachal Pradesh has reached ₹1,237.15 crore.
Meanwhile, another landslide occurred near Kumarhatti on the Nalagarh-Ramshehar road, causing a large portion of the road to sink by around 15 feet. The road has been completely blocked following the landslide.
