A tragic incident has been reported from the Roada Sector of Bilaspur district headquarters in Himachal Pradesh, where an elderly woman and her ailing son were found dead after allegedly consuming a poisonous substance.
The deceased have been identified as Kumud Sharma (66) and her son Akshansh (36), both originally residents of Arki. The mother-son duo had been living in a rented accommodation in Roada Sector for some time.
According to reports, Akshansh had been suffering from a severe illness for a long time and was unable to walk or perform daily activities for the past two to three years. His mother, Kumud Sharma, was a retired school teacher.
On Friday afternoon, when no activity was noticed in the house for an extended period, neighbours grew suspicious. When they entered the residence, both were found unresponsive and later declared dead.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the incident may be linked to the son’s prolonged illness and financial difficulties faced by the family. However, the exact substance consumed has not yet been identified.
Police have sent both bodies for post-mortem examination at the regional hospital. Bilaspur Superintendent of Police Sanjeev Dhawal confirmed that a case of suspected suicide by poison ingestion has been registered and said that a detailed investigation is underway.
