Prime Minister Narendra Modi has become the longest-serving Prime Minister in India's history in terms of consecutive tenure, surpassing the record previously held by former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.
With the completion of 4,399 continuous days in office, Modi has achieved the milestone during his third consecutive term as Prime Minister. The record considers Nehru's tenure beginning in 1952, after India's first general elections, as the period from 1947 to 1952 is regarded as the tenure of the interim government.
Marking the occasion, Prime Minister Modi shared a message on social media platform X, emphasizing that public service is the highest benchmark of good governance.
"Public service is the greatest test of good governance. A person who works continuously with humility, dedication, and a sense of duty earns the trust of the people," the Prime Minister wrote.
Modi also shared a Sanskrit verse under the title 'Sanskriti Subhashitam', highlighting that a leader who considers public service as a sacred duty, remains committed to public welfare, and works with humility and discipline for society's progress ultimately earns public trust, honor, and prosperity.
