Punjab government has imposed a one-year ban on the production, storage, transportation, distribution and sale of non-dairy, or analog, paneer across the state.

Food and Drug Administration has issued orders under Section 30(2)(a) of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. Following the order, no Food Business Operator (FBO) will be allowed to manufacture or sell analog paneer under any name.

The ban also covers its storage, transportation, supply and distribution. Authorities have been directed to conduct intensive inspections at the district level, including dairy units, paneer manufacturing facilities, wholesalers, retailers, cold stores and warehouses.

Vehicles transporting paneer will also be checked. Officials will inspect purchase records of paneer used by hotels and restaurants to ensure compliance with the order.

The administration has directed food safety officials to ensure that no production, storage or sale of analog paneer takes place anywhere in Punjab during the one-year prohibition period.
