A newborn baby boy was found hanging from a tree inside the Electricity Board Colony in Haryana’s Bhiwani on Monday morning, triggering shock and concern among local residents. The infant, wrapped inside a black plastic bag, was rescued and rushed to hospital after people passing through the area heard him crying.
According to residents, the incident came to light around 5:30 a.m. when colony residents noticed a black bag hanging from a tree and heard sounds coming from inside. They immediately alerted Dial 112, following which police and an ambulance reached the spot and shifted the baby to the Emergency Ward of the Civil Hospital.
Eyewitnesses said the infant appeared to be only a day old, with the umbilical cord still attached. Doctors reportedly stated that the baby is currently stable and receiving medical care.
Dharmveer Bhati, president of the Electricity Employees’ Union and a local resident, said that nothing unusual was seen at the location until around 5 a.m. However, when people passed through the area about half an hour later, they spotted the newborn hanging in the plastic bag from the tree.
Bhati said the infant’s body had become cold due to being left exposed outdoors, but his condition improved after he was taken to the hospital. He confirmed that the child is a baby boy.
The circumstances under which the newborn was abandoned remain unclear. Residents have demanded a thorough investigation and urged authorities to examine CCTV footage from nearby areas to identify those responsible and determine how the child was left at the spot.
Police have launched an investigation and are reviewing available evidence to trace the persons involved in the incident.
