Egypt witnessed a historic night in squash as Amina Orfi and Mostafa Asal emerged victorious at the 2026 PSA World Championships in Giza, thrilling a home crowd with remarkable performances.
The biggest highlight came from 18-year-old Orfi, who etched her name in history by becoming the youngest women’s world champion. She stunned eight-time champion Nour El Sherbini in a dramatic five-game final, winning 6-11, 11-6, 11-9, 7-11, 14-12. The match lasted 106 minutes, making it one of the longest and most intense women’s finals in modern squash history. Orfi showed immense composure, saving two championship points in the deciding game before sealing a memorable victory.
Her triumph not only denied El Sherbini a record ninth world title but also marked a generational shift in women’s squash. Orfi’s campaign was defined by resilience, as she had earlier defeated World No.1 Hania El Hammamy in a grueling 103-minute semi-final. With this win, she also became the first woman to hold both the World Junior and senior World Championship titles simultaneously.
In the men’s final, World No.1 Asal delivered a commanding performance to defend his title. He defeated Youssef Ibrahim in straight games 11-4, 11-1, 12-10. Asal controlled the match from start to finish, showcasing his trademark power, speed, and precision.
Although Ibrahim showed fight in the third game, he struggled to match Asal’s intensity after a demanding run to the final, which included victories over Paul Coll and Karim Abdel Gawad.
With this victory, Asal secured his second World Championship title and extended his tally to 29 PSA Tour titles, further solidifying his dominance in the men’s game.
