Celebrations were held at the residence of Congress MLA Pargat Singh following his appointment as the new president of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC).

Although Pargat Singh is currently in Delhi, his wife Barinder Kaur, family members and supporters celebrated the occasion at their residence. They danced to the beats of dhol, burst firecrackers and exchanged greetings.

Calling it a moment of “double happiness” for the family, Barinder Kaur said, “When our first grandson Teg was born, Pargat Singh became an MLA. Now, with the birth of our second grandson, he has become the Punjab Congress president.”

Dr Navjot Singh Dahiya, Nakodar Assembly constituency in-charge, councillor Pawan Kumar and several other supporters also visited Pargat Singh’s residence to congratulate the family.

Barinder Kaur said Pargat Singh’s background as a sportsperson has taught him how to face challenges. She expressed confidence that he would work hard to strengthen the Congress organisation in Punjab.

She said she had spoken to Pargat Singh over the phone and congratulated him on his appointment. The family, she added, is extremely happy about the responsibility entrusted to him.

Pargat Singh, a former Indian hockey player and Congress MLA from Jalandhar Cantonment, has now been appointed to lead the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee.
