Pathankot Police has busted a cross-border heroin smuggling module with the arrest of two operatives, including a woman, and the seizure of 7.823 kg of heroin in a coordinated two-stage operation.

Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said on Wednesday that the operation was carried out in line with Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s directions to make Punjab a drug-free state.

The arrested accused have been identified as Gurpanth, a resident of Village Vadala in Amritsar Rural, and his associate Harmanjeet Kaur, a resident of Dhianpur in Gurdaspur district.

Sharing details of the operation, Pathankot Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Manpreet Singh said that, acting on credible intelligence, a Special Branch team intercepted Gurpanth and recovered 590 grams of heroin from his possession.

During sustained interrogation and forensic examination of his mobile phone, police developed further leads and raided a rented accommodation in Fatehgarh Churian. The raid led to the arrest of Harmanjeet Kaur and the recovery of an additional 7.233 kg of heroin, taking the total seizure to 7.823 kg.

The SSP said preliminary investigations had established cross-border links. Packets bearing distinctive seal impressions and Pakistani markings were also recovered, indicating possible connections to a cross-border narcotics supply network.

Police have also found videos related to contraband consignments, along with financial transaction records and bank account details. Digital and technical analysis is underway to trace the wider smuggling network, establish the financial trail and identify other individuals involved in the racket.

A case has been registered under FIR No. 155 dated October 12, 2026, under Section 21 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Police Station Sadar, Pathankot. Further investigation is in progress.
