A woman was allegedly murdered in Pathankot after she demanded the return of ₹1 lakh she had lent to a milkman, police said. The accused allegedly lured her out of her house with an excuse, killed her and later dumped her body in the Chakki River in Himachal Pradesh.
The Pathankot Police have arrested two accused in connection with the case. The deceased has been identified as Kiran. One of the accused is a resident of Himachal Pradesh.
According to a complaint filed by Sandeep Singh, a resident of the area behind Woodland Hotel on Dhangu Road, his mother Kiran left home at around 7:30 pm on September 8 without informing the family. When she could not be traced despite extensive searches, a missing person report was lodged at Police Station Division No. 2.
Meanwhile, the family learned that the body of an unidentified woman had been recovered from the Chakki River near a police post under the jurisdiction of Damtal Police Station in Himachal Pradesh on September 9. Sandeep reached Damtal and identified the body as that of his mother through photographs and other evidence.
In his complaint, Sandeep alleged that Ashraf Ali, a resident of Gurdaspur Bhaiyan and currently residing in Trehti Hariyal, Pathankot, had borrowed ₹1 lakh from Kiran. When she repeatedly demanded repayment, Ashraf allegedly avoided returning the money and had her threatened through his relative Bashir Din, a resident of Tippiri Lodhwan in Himachal Pradesh.
Police said that Ashraf Ali and Bashir Din allegedly conspired to eliminate Kiran in order to avoid repaying the loan. On September 8, they allegedly called her out of her home on the pretext of some work, attacked her and killed her. They then allegedly disposed of her body in the Chakki River.
Police have arrested both named accused and registered a case against them. Further investigation and legal proceedings are underway.
