A couple who had gone to inspect a house in Patiala was brutally attacked by a pet pitbull inside the property. The dog reportedly first grabbed the woman by the leg, causing her to fall and scream for help.
According to police and eyewitness accounts, when her husband tried to rescue her, the pitbull turned on him and bit his back severely. As the man shouted for help, the dog released him but immediately attacked the woman again, clamping its jaws around her arm.
Hearing the couple’s cries, around five to six nearby residents rushed to the spot carrying sticks. They struck the dog repeatedly, after which it finally released the couple and ran back inside the house.
CCTV footage of the entire incident has surfaced and is being examined by investigators.
Both victims were taken to hospital in an injured condition. Doctors performed surgery on the woman’s arm, while the man received stitches on his leg and back.
Patiala’s Anaj Mandi police station has registered a case under Sections 291, 125A and 125B of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against an unidentified person. Police said the owner of the pitbull has not yet been identified, but the name will be added to the FIR once the owner is traced.
The incident has raised fresh concerns over the safety of keeping aggressive dog breeds in residential areas and the responsibility of pet owners to ensure public safety.
