Punjab Police have arrested two youths in connection with the petrol bomb attack on a BJP office in Sangrur. Preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused were allegedly promised ₹2,200 to carry out the attack.
According to police officials, one of the youths was assigned the task of throwing the petrol bomb, while the second accused allegedly recorded the entire incident on a mobile phone.
Following the attack, police launched a detailed investigation, examining CCTV footage from nearby areas, mobile phone records, and other technical evidence. Authorities said the video recording is being treated as a crucial piece of evidence.
Investigators are trying to determine why the video was made and whether there was any plan to circulate it on social media to create fear or tension.
Police sources said the accused had allegedly received specific instructions before carrying out the attack. The petrol bomb was reportedly thrown towards the BJP office, causing concern among local residents and party workers.
However, officials are still assessing the extent of the damage and investigating whether other individuals were involved in planning or facilitating the incident.
The investigation is now focused on tracing the source of the ₹2,200 payment and identifying those who allegedly instigated or directed the youths. Police are also conducting a forensic examination of the accused’s mobile phones to analyze call records, messages, videos, and other suspicious contacts that could help uncover a wider conspiracy.
Senior police officials stated that more arrests are possible. They warned that anyone found involved in planning the attack, providing financial assistance, offering logistical support, or provoking the accused would face strict legal action.
In the wake of the incident, security arrangements at the BJP office and other sensitive locations in the area have been reviewed and strengthened. Police have appealed to the public to maintain peace and avoid sharing any unverified videos or information on social media.
Officials emphasized that the investigation is still ongoing, and further interrogation of the accused along with analysis of digital evidence may lead to more significant revelations.
