An unusual initiative called ‘Petrol Langar’ is set to draw attention in Chandigarh on Tuesday, August 18, with organisers reportedly planning to distribute coupons worth ₹500 and ₹1,000 for free petrol.
The initiative is scheduled to take place at selected petrol pumps in Sectors 7 and 10 from 5 pm. According to available information, the event is being organised by Rakesh Trehan, popularly known as ‘Raja Di King’, who is associated with Amritsar.
The concept of a ‘petrol langar’ has generated curiosity among residents, particularly amid rising fuel costs. Traditionally, the term ‘langar’ is associated with providing free food to people, while this initiative seeks to extend the idea to an everyday necessity—fuel.
The initiative has also attracted attention on social media. Reports suggest that similar unconventional service initiatives have been organised in Chandigarh previously. At an event in Sector 8, food and beverages were reportedly distributed along with ₹500 currency notes.
There is also speculation about a possible ‘iPhone Langar’ as a follow-up initiative. However, details regarding its date, the number of iPhones to be distributed and eligibility criteria have not been independently verified. The claim should therefore be treated as a possible future initiative rather than a confirmed event.
Trehan has reportedly said that a portion of the profits from cryptocurrency trading is used for his social initiatives.
For now, attention remains focused on Tuesday’s ‘Petrol Langar’, with the Sector 7 and Sector 10 events scheduled for 5 pm expected to attract considerable public interest.
