Police have stepped into action over the documentary “Lawrence of Punjab,” which is scheduled to release on ZEE5 on April 27. In this regard, a letter has been sent to the central government requesting intervention. The Cyber Crime branch has urged authorities to halt the streaming of the film.
The police have also sought the invocation of Section 69A(1) of the Information Technology Act, which empowers the government to block online content in the interest of sovereignty, security, and public order. Meanwhile, Punjab Congress chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, demanding a ban on the documentary.
Demand to block trailer globally
Authorities have further requested that the trailer of the series be blocked globally. According to the police, the content could impact public order, promote radicalization among youth, and potentially hinder ongoing operations against organized crime.
