Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema has hit back at Congress MP Dr Dharamvir Gandhi over questions regarding government spending on religious and cultural programs. Cheema said the Bhagwant Mann government was using public funds judiciously to preserve Punjab’s rich religious and cultural heritage.
He said initiatives commemorating Sikh Gurus, including the 350th Shaheedi Diwas of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib and the 650th Parkash Purab of Sri Guru Ravidass Ji Maharaj, were aimed at connecting the younger generation with Punjab’s spiritual traditions.
Defending the government’s pilgrimage initiatives, Cheema said they were helping elderly and economically weaker devotees visit important religious sites.
He accused Congress leaders of criticising people-centric programs for political reasons and said the Punjab Government would continue supporting initiatives that promote the state’s religious, cultural and spiritual legacy.
