Punjab Vidhan Sabha on Tuesday unanimously passed eight resolutions on the final day of its 13th session, addressing key issues related to river waters, irrigation infrastructure, public welfare schemes and the reopening of the Sri Kartarpur Sahib Corridor.
The resolutions included authorising the Speaker of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha to nominate two members to the Senate of Panjab University, Chandigarh, in proportion to the representation of various political parties in the House.
Other resolutions sought Punjab’s legitimate and equitable share in Yamuna waters and called for the administration, maintenance and operation of the irrigation headworks at Ropar, Harike and Ferozepur to remain under the control of Punjab.
The Assembly also passed a resolution rejecting the Dam Safety Act, 2021, and another seeking payment of the cost or royalty for river waters from the Sutlej, Ravi and Beas supplied to Rajasthan.
Another resolution urged the Union Government to execute the Ujh Multipurpose Project and divert its waters to the Ranjit Sagar Dam. The move aims to prevent the Ravi river waters from flowing into Pakistan downstream of the Madhopur Headworks.
The House also passed a resolution calling for the continuation of public welfare schemes launched by the Punjab Government and another urging the Union Government to reopen the Sri Kartarpur Sahib Corridor.
Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema moved the resolution appreciating the state government's public welfare schemes, while Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains tabled the resolution seeking the reopening of the Kartarpur Sahib Corridor.
The resolutions concerning river waters and related issues were moved by Water Resources Minister Barinder Kumar Goyal.
