Punjab Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, on Monday approved the creation of 19 new posts in the Chief Electoral Office to strengthen its functioning. New appointments will be made to fill these positions.
Briefing the media after the Cabinet meeting, Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said the decision would help increase the workforce and improve the functioning of the Chief Electoral Office.
The Cabinet also approved amendments to the Punjab Nursing Service Rules, 2016. Cheema said the Nursing Department was separated as an independent department in 2021, but separate service rules had not been framed at that time. The government has now amended the rules to ensure various service-related benefits for employees.
He added that around 1,400 staff nurses had already been recruited in the department. The revised rules would benefit employees by providing them with several service-related facilities and benefits.
In another significant decision, the Cabinet approved bringing the services of non-teaching employees under the society framework. Earlier, computer teachers had also been brought under a society. The government has now decided to extend this arrangement to other non-teaching employees.
The Cabinet further gave its nod to the formation of the Ranjit Sagar Development Authority to develop Pathankot as a major tourism destination.
The state government aims to promote tourism by developing the area's existing tourist attractions. The Ranjit Sagar Dam region, spread over approximately 305 acres, has significant tourism potential.
As per the proposed structure, the Chief Minister will serve as the Chairman of the authority, while the concerned ministers will be its members. The authority is expected to play a key role in developing tourism infrastructure and unlocking the region's tourism potential.
