Punjab government employees have called off their strike after the state government withdrew the show-cause notices issued against employees over their participation in the August 27 strike.
The employees will soon hold a meeting with Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to discuss their pending demands.
The employees had earlier decided to continue their protest through mass leave till September 11 if their demands were not accepted. Initially, the strike had been announced only for September 8.
According to the union, following the August 27 strike, the government had issued a letter proposing action over the absence of around 2,500 employees. The employees had been demanding withdrawal of the letter as a key condition for ending their protest.
The development came after the government on Tuesday warned striking employees that the “No Work, No Pay” rule would be enforced and that departmental action could be taken against those remaining absent from duty.
With the government now withdrawing the notices, the employees have decided to end the strike and take up their remaining demands with the Chief Minister.
