Reaffirming the Punjab government's commitment to standing firmly with farmers and resolving their issues through dialogue, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann met a delegation of the Progressive Dairy Farmers Association (PDFA) led by its President Daljit Singh Gill Sardarpura. The delegation included members of the association's Executive Committee and Core Committee.
During the meeting, the PDFA highlighted the severe financial challenges being faced by dairy farmers due to a sharp increase in fodder prices and other input costs. The delegation informed the Chief Minister that the cost of milk production had risen significantly, pushing the dairy sector into financial distress and making it increasingly difficult for farmers to sustain their livelihoods.
Taking immediate note of the concerns, Chief Minister Mann accepted the farmers' demand and announced an increase of ₹40 per kilogram of fat in the milk procurement rate. The revised rate has been made effective from July 21, 2026, and is expected to provide substantial financial relief to lakhs of dairy farmers across Punjab.
Chief Minister said the Aam Aadmi Party government remains fully committed to protecting the interests of every section associated with agriculture. He added that, unlike previous governments that made farmers wait for months for meetings and resolutions, the Mann government believes in maintaining direct communication with stakeholders and addressing their concerns without delay.
Expressing gratitude, the PDFA delegation thanked Chief Minister Mann for listening to the concerns of dairy farmers and taking swift action in their favour. The association said the increase in the procurement rate would help offset rising production costs, provide much-needed relief to dairy farmers, and strengthen Punjab's dairy sector.
The delegation also appreciated the Punjab government's farmer-friendly approach and its willingness to engage directly with the farming community to resolve their issues through constructive dialogue.
