Punjab Social Justice, Empowerment and Minorities Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur on Wednesday announced a statewide awareness campaign to remove misconceptions regarding Backward Class (BC) Certificates and ensure eligible citizens receive their rightful benefits.
Addressing a press conference at Punjab Bhawan, the minister said many applicants face difficulties due to incorrect interpretation of BC certificate rules. She clarified that eligibility is determined solely on the basis of the status of an applicant's parents, while the income, employment or social status of a spouse or other relatives has no bearing on eligibility.
Dr. Baljit Kaur said the government will hold meetings with Deputy Commissioners and display simplified guidelines at Sewa Kendras and other certificate-issuing centres to ensure uniform implementation across the state.
Highlighting welfare measures, she said nearly 76,000 beneficiaries have received around ₹391 crore under the Ashirwad Scheme since 2022, while BC students continue to benefit from scholarship schemes and educational support programs.
Minister expressed confidence that the campaign will eliminate confusion, ensure transparency and help all eligible beneficiaries access reservation and welfare benefits without hurdles.
