Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Tuesday assured residents that there is no shortage of sugar in the state and said the Punjab Government is closely monitoring sugar stocks, supply and sales to safeguard consumer interests.
Chairing a meeting with senior officials, the Chief Minister directed authorities to ensure adequate availability of sugar across the state and take strict action against any attempt to create artificial scarcity or hoard stocks. He said sugar is an essential household commodity and its uninterrupted supply must be maintained at all times.
Mann noted that sugarcane production declined across the country, including in Punjab, during 2025-26 due to adverse weather conditions. However, he emphasized that despite lower yields, Punjab has sufficient sugar reserves and there is no cause for concern.
Chief Minister instructed officials to conduct physical verification of sugar stocks at mills, enforce stock-holding limits, and ensure regular reporting through the Food Stock Monitoring Portal. He also called for strict implementation of stock limits for bulk consumers.
Reaffirming the government's commitment to protecting consumers, Mann said every necessary step would be taken to ensure uninterrupted availability of sugar and prevent any disruption in supply across Punjab.
