Punjab Police’s Counter Intelligence unit in Jalandhar, along with SBS Nagar (Nawanshahr) Police, has busted a terror module and arrested its key operative. Police recovered an 86-P hand grenade from the accused, thwarting a suspected terror plot in the state before it could be executed.
According to police officials, preliminary investigations have revealed that the arrested suspect was in direct contact with foreign-based handlers and was allegedly planning a major attack in Punjab under their instructions.
Investigators said the accused had procured the 86-P hand grenade from a dead-drop location near Adampur in Jalandhar, allegedly on the directions of his overseas handlers. The recovery is being treated as a significant success in preventing a possible terror strike.
An FIR has been registered at Sadar Nawanshahr Police Station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Explosive Substances Act. Police are preparing to produce the accused before a court and seek custodial remand for detailed interrogation.
Security agencies are now working to trace the entire network linked to the terror module, including local facilitators, financiers, and foreign handlers operating from across the border. Investigators are also trying to determine the intended target of the recovered grenade and whether a public place or high-value installation was being targeted.
Punjab Police DGP shared details of the operation through social media, stating that the force remains fully committed to eliminating terrorism, cross-border conspiracies, and organised crime from the state.
He emphasized that maintaining public safety, peace, and communal harmony is the top priority of Punjab Police, and that strict action under a zero-tolerance policy against anti-social and terror-linked elements will continue.
