Punjab Power Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond on Saturday said that the ongoing power crisis in the state is expected to ease within the next two days. Addressing a press conference in Chandigarh, the minister said the Punjab government is in constant touch with the Centre to resolve the issue.
Sond stated that the situation worsened due to inadequate power supply from the central power pool. He clarified that Punjab does not face a shortage of coal. However, private thermal power plants have been affected because they are not receiving adequate coal supplies from the Centre, resulting in reduced electricity generation.
Minister made the statement amid growing concerns over extended power cuts in the industrial sector. He accused political opponents of spreading misinformation regarding coal availability and the state's financial position. Sond asserted that the Punjab government has sufficient funds and that claims suggesting otherwise are false.
Meanwhile, the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) has once again imposed power cuts on Category-2 feeders. The latest outage will remain in effect from 4:30 pm to midnight, impacting industrial units across the state for nearly seven and a half hours.
The move comes a day after similar restrictions were enforced on Friday night, when power supply to Category-2 feeders was suspended from 8 pm to 6 am. The recurring outages have disrupted industrial operations, with many factories being forced to halt production during the scheduled power cuts.
