Amid an ongoing power crisis in Punjab, the state government has removed Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) Basant Garg and appointed senior IAS officer Gurkirat Kirpal Singh as the new CMD.
Gurkirat Kirpal Singh, a 2001-batch IAS officer, will take charge of the power utility at a time when the state has been facing electricity supply challenges and power outages in several areas.
The development comes as Punjab Power Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond assured residents that prolonged power cuts would come to an end from September 15. Speaking in Ludhiana, the minister said the state government had taken corrective measures to restore power generation and improve supply.
Sond stated that private power plants facing operational issues had been repaired and made functional with the government's intervention. He added that nearly 200 government employees were deployed to help resolve technical and operational problems at these plants.
Minister expressed confidence that electricity supply would stabilize across Punjab, bringing relief to consumers affected by recent outages and ensuring uninterrupted power in the coming days.
