Rainfall across several parts of Punjab and Chandigarh has brought much-needed relief from the prevailing heat and humidity. The Meteorological Centre has issued a yellow alert, warning of heavy rainfall at isolated locations from today until September 5.
According to the weather department, Chandigarh is expected to remain partly cloudy, with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers likely during the day. While weather conditions have turned more pleasant, the maximum temperature in the region has registered a marginal increase of 0.1 degrees Celsius and is now close to the seasonal normal.
Bathinda recorded the highest maximum temperature in Punjab at 36.4°C. Despite recent showers, the state continues to face a rainfall deficit, with 37 percent less rainfall recorded during the ongoing monsoon season compared to normal levels.
India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted rainfall in 20 districts of Punjab. Heavy rain is likely at isolated places in Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, Rupnagar, and Mohali. Meanwhile, districts including Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Nawanshahr, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Sangrur, Fatehgarh Sahib, Patiala, and Mohali may experience rain at several locations.
Light to moderate rainfall is also expected in Tarn Taran, Ferozepur, Fazilka, Faridkot, Muktsar, Moga, Bathinda, Barnala, and Mansa, the department said.
Officials have advised residents, especially in areas under the yellow alert, to remain cautious and stay updated on weather advisories as rainfall activity is expected to intensify over the next few days.
