Meteorological Centre in Chandigarh has issued a yellow alert for August 3 and 4, forecasting rainfall in several parts of Punjab and Chandigarh. The weather department has urged people to remain cautious during adverse weather conditions, avoid waterlogged areas, and stay away from open spaces during lightning activity.
According to the department, thunderstorms accompanied by rain are also likely on August 5 and 6 across most parts of the state. However, the chances of very heavy rainfall remain low. The expected showers are likely to bring down temperatures and provide relief from the prevailing humid conditions.
As per the Chandigarh weather office, the city recorded a maximum temperature of 35.2°C on Sunday, which was 2 degrees above normal, while the minimum temperature settled at 27.4°C, 1 degree above normal. Only trace rainfall was recorded in the city during the past 24 hours.
Bathinda Hottest in Punjab
The weather department reported that Punjab witnessed an average rise of 0.4°C in maximum temperatures compared to the previous day. The state’s average maximum temperature remained 1.6°C above normal.
Bathinda recorded the highest maximum temperature at 36.5°C. Other major cities also experienced warm and humid weather, with Patiala recording 35.4°C, Amritsar 35.1°C, and Ludhiana 35.0°C.
During the last 24 hours, most parts of Punjab remained dry and humid. However, Nangal received 22.5 mm of rainfall, while Barnala recorded 2 mm.
The weather department said that the upcoming spell of rain is expected to improve weather conditions across the region and offer temporary respite from the ongoing humidity and heat.
