Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab Media In-charge Baltej Pannu on Tuesday accused Congress leader Amarinder Singh Raja Warring and Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia of sharing a fake audio clip without verifying its authenticity or checking the facts.
Addressing the media, Pannu said the audio being circulated on social media following the killing of Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Harjit Singh was completely fabricated and was being shared irresponsibly by opposition leaders.
“This is fake. It is a fake audio that they are continuously tweeting and forwarding without seeing, knowing or verifying it,” Pannu said.
The AAP leader questioned why Raja Warring and Majithia chose to circulate the audio without first confirming whether it was genuine. He alleged that both leaders were spreading misinformation by amplifying unverified content.
Pannu further stated that the opposition leaders did not make any effort to ascertain the facts before sharing the audio clip publicly. “This is fake, a fake audio, which they are continuously forwarding and tweeting without seeing it, without knowing the facts and without verifying it,” he said.
Meanwhile, Punjab Police Headquarters issued an official fact-check and clarified that no such advisory had been issued by the department. The police rejected claims circulating in the audio and urged people not to believe unverified information.
In its clarification, Punjab Police stated that neither the Police Headquarters nor any office under it had issued instructions directing police personnel to avoid wearing uniforms while travelling to or from duty or to commute in civilian clothes.
The fact-check came amid widespread circulation of the audio clip on social media after the killing of ASI Harjit Singh. Punjab Police reiterated that the alleged advisory was false and appealed to the public to rely only on information released through official channels.
