RBU gets ISRO approval for outreach programme

MOHALI: The Rayat Bahra University Department of Physics has been accorded approval for conducting online outreach programmes of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), the top space organisation of the country.

Stating this here today, Gurvinder Singh Bahra, Chancellor of the Rayat Bahra University, said that the online outreach programmes of the ISRO would be conducted through the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS), Dehradun.

Bahra said that this would enable the students of the Rayat Bahra University to benefit in terms of excellent exposure. The University is now the network institute of ISRO and is included in the online application form of IIRS Outreach Programme.

Dr Jatinder Singh Bal pro vc said the use of remote sensing, geographical information system, global navigation satellite system and associated geospatial technologies is increasing rapidly, creating an urgent demand for trained manpower.

He said the live and interactive mode of distance learning is enabled through the internet and A-view software platform developed by Amrita e-learning Lab in collaboration with the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD).

The programmes are available through the internet without any cost to the user. The live and interactive sessions will be conducted by experts from IISR-ISRO and other knowledge institutions.

Dr  M S Mehta head department of physics  said the IIRS has successfully conducted 22 such courses so far with participation of over 120258+ participants from 1048+ academic institutions, government departments and industry. The beneficiaries of the programme include central, state, private universities and academic institutions; Central and State government organizations and departments; research institutes; geospatial industry; and NGOs.

IIRS also conducts various theme oriented online courses and monthly webinars on recent topics on geospatial technologies and its applications. Users are encouraged to actively participate in these programmes.
