RBU hosts workshop on food science

MOHALI: The Department of Life Sciences of the Rayat Bahra University organised a three-day workshop on Life Science, Food Science and Environmental Technology to inculcate scientific and practical temperament among the faculty and the students.

Gurvinder Singh Bahra, Chancellor of the Rayat Bahra University, lauded the initiative in organizing the event and conveyed his greetings to the eminent participants in the workshop.

Dr Parvinder Singh, Vice-Chancellor, underlined the need of organising such workshops regularly to enhance scientific and technical skills of the students and the faculty.

Dr Simerjit Kaur, Head of the Life Sciences Department, was also organising secretary of the workshop, said that the Rayat Bahra University was always vigilant about holistic development of students and provided them such learning platforms.

Dr Lakhwinder Singh, Dean of the Faculty of Sciences, SGT, University, Gurugram, spoke about the various physical, chemical and biological treatment of industrial wastewater by citing various examples. Dr Anu Agarwal, Clinical Dietician in the Department of Radiation Oncology, AIIMS, Rishikesh, elaborated on various aspects of food processing.

Dr Simranjeet Singh, Professor, SGT University, highlighted the significance of constructed wetlands for wastewater treatment.

Dr Simerjit, Head of the Life Sciences Department, spoke about ozone layer depletion, photochemical smog and global warming.

Dr. Sonia from Manipur University enlightened the participants about gene expression techniques.

Dr Ramawatar, Scientist in the Institute of Plant Biotechnology, Delhi, elaborated on genome sequencing, gene assembly and annotation.
