Heavy rainfall in Himachal Pradesh has started taking a serious toll, with a massive landslide destroying a large section of the Chuwari–Bharari road in Chamba district on Saturday morning.
A vehicle passing through the area was caught in the landslide and became trapped under debris. Fortunately, the occupants managed to escape in time, narrowly avoiding a major tragedy.
The landslide occurred at around 8:00 a.m., when a huge amount of mud, rocks, and debris suddenly crashed down from the hillside onto the road. The impact was so severe that a significant portion of the roadway collapsed into the adjoining gorge, completely disrupting traffic.
The road closure left vehicles stranded on both sides, causing long traffic jams and significant inconvenience for commuters, especially those travelling for urgent work.
Soon after receiving information about the incident, teams from the Public Works Department (PWD) reached the site and launched rescue and restoration operations. Two JCB machines were deployed immediately, and by the afternoon, the trapped vehicle was safely recovered from the debris.
Authorities have started round-the-clock efforts to clear the landslide debris and restore connectivity on the affected route as quickly as possible. Meanwhile, travelers have been advised to exercise caution due to the continued risk of rain-triggered landslides in the region.
