Political activity has intensified in Punjab ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections, with speculation growing over a possible alliance between the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Amid several days of political speculation, SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal held a lengthy meeting with Punjab BJP election in-charge C.R. Patil in Delhi. The meeting has added fresh momentum to discussions about a possible revival of ties between the two parties.
According to sources, the two leaders discussed the current political situation in Punjab as well as strategy for the upcoming Assembly elections. However, neither the SAD nor the BJP has officially disclosed the details of the meeting.
The development is significant as SAD and BJP had shared a long-standing alliance in Punjab before parting ways in 2020 over differences related to the farm laws. With the 2027 elections approaching, any move towards renewed cooperation could have major implications for the state’s political landscape.
