A school bus went out of control and crashed into the gate of a house in the Sodhal Industrial Area of Jalandhar on Friday morning while its driver was attempting to avoid a pickup vehicle. Around 10 children were on board at the time of the accident, with one child reportedly suffering minor injuries.
The collision severely damaged the school bus, while the house gate was broken and cracks appeared in the walls. The family's car parked inside the house narrowly escaped being hit by the bus.
Rajwant Kaur, the owner of the house, said she was inside when the speeding bus suddenly went out of control and rammed into her property's gate. She said several accidents had occurred at the same intersection in the past and urged the administration to install speed breakers to prevent similar incidents.
The family has lodged a complaint with the school authorities against the bus driver and informed the police at Police Station No. 1 about the incident.
Driver Claims Pickup Vehicle Suddenly Appeared
Meanwhile, Shelly, the driver of the TIPS School bus and a resident of Malika Chowk, said he had been driving school buses for several years. According to him, he was travelling from the underbridge towards the Industrial Area when a speeding pickup suddenly appeared at the intersection.
He claimed that he swerved to avoid the pickup, following which the bus went out of control and crashed into the house. The driver maintained that the bus was not travelling at a high speed and attributed the incident to a loss of control while applying the brakes.
The driver also alleged that the pickup driver fled the scene after the accident.
Children Shifted to Another Bus
Following the collision, the bus driver informed the school management, which sent another bus to the spot. The children were transferred to the replacement bus and taken to school.
The incident has once again raised concerns over road safety at the intersection, with the affected family demanding speed breakers and other preventive measures to avoid accidents in the area.
