A shocking case of alleged abduction and gang rape of a 16-year-old schoolgirl has been reported from Zirakpur in Mohali district, prompting a major police investigation.
According to the complaint filed by the victim’s mother, the teenager left her home around 7:30 am on August 6 to attend school as usual. On the way, three youths travelling in a car allegedly intercepted her. The girl claimed that one of the accused had been pressuring her for friendship for several days.
When she resisted, the accused allegedly placed a cloth soaked with an intoxicating substance over her mouth, causing her to lose consciousness. She was then allegedly taken to an unidentified location where the accused committed gang rape.
The girl told police that she was later abandoned in a semi-conscious condition in Zirakpur around 2:15 pm. Before fleeing, the accused allegedly threatened to kill her if she disclosed the incident to anyone.
Allegation of second assault
The complaint further states that despite being frightened, the girl again left for school on August 7. She has alleged that the same accused abducted her again from the road and subjected her to another sexual assault.
She was allegedly given another intoxicating substance when she tried to resist. At around 5 pm, the accused reportedly left her near a gift shop in Baltana and escaped.
With the help of passersby, the girl managed to contact her mother by phone. Family members who reached the spot found her in a terrified and distressed condition and took her home. After contacting the school, the family discovered that the student had not reached school on either day.
FIR registered, CCTV footage under scrutiny
Based on the mother’s statement, Zirakpur police have registered an FIR and launched a search for the accused.
Police teams are currently examining CCTV footage along the entire route from the girl’s house to her school. Investigators are focusing on identifying the suspected car used in the crime and tracing the three accused youths.
Officials said further action will be taken based on the victim’s statement, medical examination, and the evidence collected during the investigation.
